At the Start and Finish

The Start and Finish Areas are co-located on the Ocean Promenade adjacent to the Ocean Place Resort & Spa.

Event Start Times

  • The New Jersey Marathon, 7:30am

  • The Long Branch Half Marathon, 7:30am

  • The NJM 4- or 3-Person Marathon Relay, 7:30am

At the Start

  • Be sure that you have your race bib and timing chip on your shoe.

  • There is no change of event at the start -- If you signed up to run the marathon and did not officially change your event by the 4/5/08 deadline,  your chip will time you for this marathon. If you do not finish the 26.2 miles you will be recorded as a DNF.

  • Amenities at the Start -- Bagels, Water, Vaseline, sunscreen and Porta Johns. Greeters and a Help/Info Desk will be available to provide direction and last minute answers to questions.

  • Finish line bags--You must drop your bag off at the NJM Baggage Room inside the Ocean Place Resort & Spa.  Please do not leave it outside at the Start.  We cannot be responsible for bags left anywhere but at the official drop-off inside the Ocean Place Resort.  Bags left outside and unattended may be confiscated due to Homeland Security requirements.  Please do not leave valuables in your bag.  NJSM, Inc. is not responsible for any valuables.

  • There are no Mylar blankets at the Start or Finish for environmental reasons; so be sure to pack WARM sweats in your finish line bag.

  • Runners . . . Please line up according to your ability!   Signs with predicted finishing times will be on display at the Start.  Your cooperation will ensure a smooth and timely start.

  • The Official Pacers will be wearing bright pacing time bibs on front and back and carrying pennants. At the start, look for the signs that show the pace times. Your pacer will meet you at the appropriate sign. Click here for more info...

  • Please avoid the timing mats while waiting for the start.

At the Finish

  • Make sure that your race bib is on the front of your Tee/singlet and is visible so that you will receive your "official" marathon photo.

  • After you cross the finish line, keep moving forward through the chute. You will return your timing chip, be awarded your Finisher's Medal and Hat and can then meet loved ones in the reunion area.

  • Water and Post-Race Refreshments will be available in the Big Top Tent adjacent to the Start/Finish Area.  This will be free to all marathon, half marathon and relay participants; simply show your Finisher's Medal, Race Bib or Finisher's Hat.

  • Finish line bag pick-up, trained medical personnel and sports massage therapists are all located in the hotel.

  • NJM Official Merchandise will be available inside the Big Top Tent on Marathon Sunday.

  • Results and Awards -- Results will be posted and Age Group Awards announced in the Big Top Tent adjacent to the finish line.

  • The Finish Line closes at 2:30pm.  All full (26.2-mile) marathoners must complete the first 13.1-mile loop in 3 hours 15 minutes or less.  All full marathoners who are at the 13.2 mile mark after the time limit will be instructed to turn in their timing chip and leave the course. The course will begin to open to traffic and on-course support will begin to shut down at that time.
