After finishing up with college, I swam at The College of NJ, I took a few years off from any type of competition.  4 yrs later, my girlfriend at the time, now my wife, talked me into doing the rock n roll marathon out in San Diego.  I had no idea how to pace or anything & was lucky to finish the race in the time I did (3:24).  After this, I decided that I needed to leverage my swimming background a bit & headed in the direction of triathlons and have been actively competing for about 5yrs now.  In 2005, I was planning on doing my first ironman & needed to bump up the running mileage & started looking to marathons again.  I've done 4 since I've worked up to the ironman distance.

In terms of pacing, I'll be looking to even split it & hold as close to 7:15's as possible for each mile, if conditions permit.  I have a lot of experience with aid stations, & endurance racing in general, so if you have any questions, just let me know.  If I can give 1 tip before the race, it's to get the best possible night of sleep on Friday. Many people get nervous the night before, so the night before that is often the most important in terms of rest. See you on the 4th!

Joshua Grzegorzewski is a Highway Engineer with the US DOT in Cambridge, MA who was first inspired to attempt distance running while attending the 2004 Boston Marathon.  In (what seems like) a previous life he was the 1993 NJ-SCIL 400m hurdles champion for Wallkill Valley Regional H.S before taking an 11-year hiatus from athletics.

His first marathon was the rain-soaked Hartford (CT) Marathon in 2005 for which he was insufficiently hydrated, improperly fueled, and incorrectly lubed to prevent chafing from his waterlogged clothes and shoes.  However, this learning experience proved to be extremely helpful in planning and preparing for all future race events including the 5 subsequent marathons he has completed as of Feb 1, 2008.

He runs, with the support of his opera soprano wife Beth Grzegorzewski, in honor of those who cannot, to inspire those who have not (yet), and in appreciation of those who enable us to run freely and safely without fear.

This marathon will be his 4th in as many months as part of the multi-stage RunningBull's Run to Honor America's Veterans in support of the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans.  Information on how you can help participate is available at: http://www.active.com/donate/runningbull.

Hello, my name is Gavasker. I live in Stamford, CT.  I
was a resident of New Jersey before moving down to
Connecticut. While I was in New Jersey I used to play
in the South Brunswick adult soccer League and
badminton club in Maplewood.

My first ever road race was a 5K in May 2003.  Since
then I ran many road races including 7 marathons and
at least a dozen half
marathons. My best time for a marathon is 3:23 from
Baltimore trail Marathon which I ran in 2006 and my
best half marathon time is 1:32.

I'm a software engineer by profession and work for a
reinsurance company in Greenwich, Connecticut. I enjoy
running whether it is a race or it is just a training
run.

I WISH YOU ALL THE VERY BEST FOR THE NJ MARATHON.

Jim started running ten years ago as a way to combat boredom after a divorce, and has since competed in hundreds of local Jersey Shore road races, at all distances from 5K up to the marathon.  Finisher of 12 marathons, including Boston, New York City, Philadelphia (twice), Marine Corps (twice), and the New Jersey Marathon (twice).  Jim is a three time Boston Marathon Qualifier, with a PR of 3:13 which he set in 2002.  He also competes in local triathlons, and has completed Ironman four times, in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Jim lives in Belmar and when not running works as a Project Manager for Schoor DePalma, a multi-disciplined civil engineering firm based in Manalapan.

I am 42 years old and have been running off and on since high school track. I guess the joke in the family is my mid-life crisis hit and I decided to run at least 1 marathon by 40. Turns out I ran two that year and two the following! Baltimore and Philly marathons and a few 1/2 marathons later I am now shooting for Boston (need 3:20)
next year hopefully.
I am a married (hi Deb) father of 3 children Jake (18) Veronica (12) and Nathan (11).
This is my sister Laura's first marathon and I hope to not only help her but others with pacing, fluid, food, energy and the general "issues" with the marathon distance.

I have been running for approximately 25 years. I have completed 50 (exactly) marathons, including 14 NYC and 10 Boston. My best marathons were two of the Bostons, in which I ran a 2:58 and a 2:59, in two consecutive years. I work for the New Jersey Attorney General's office where I am a Deputy Chief in charge of the casino regulatory enforcement. I am married for 34 years, with three children.

Running has been an integral part of my life for the past 31 years.  My inspiration for running is my Dad, who was my first running mentor. When I was in elementary school, I started running with my father during his daily runs. As I grew older, I continued to run with him but also joined the cross-country and track teams in high school. I ran my first “unofficial” marathon when I was in high school (in 1983) and my first “official” marathon on January 1, 2000.  As of January 2008, I have completed 14 marathons.  Consistency has been a key component of my running, with speed being of secondary importance.

Since August 2000, I have coached a New York Road Runner (NYRR) Foundation Young Runners Team. In June 2005, I also started coaching for Team for Kids, the charity marathon team who raise money for the NYRR Foundation.

Running is my passion, and I cherish the opportunity to help others experience the joys of being a “healthy” runner. My goal is to help make running a lifelong enjoyable activity for others, as is has become for me.

In addition to running, I enjoy playing with my two boys, MattE and TomE, both American Shorthair cats. To “create” balance in my life, I practice yoga daily. I also enjoy biking with my husband, Mark, who is not a runner!

I’ve been hooked on distance running for the past five years, and have completed 25 marathons (including the 2005-2007 New Jersey marathons, Boston, New York, and Quadzilla - 4 marathons in 4 consecutive days across California and Nevada). I’ve previously led pace groups for the New Jersey Marathon, and have paced individuals in 100-mile ultras. Once again, I’m looking forward to running with the NJM pacers with the 4:15 group. That should give us just enough time for me to share all my thoughts with you on The Simpsons, why the designated hitter has ruined baseball, and why Pete Townshend is the most under-appreciated musical genius ever. With any luck, I won’t have to sing to you. Feel free to bring ear plugs just in case.

Personal Records:

5K: 0:19:28
10K: 0:40:58
½ Marathon: 1:30:26
Marathon: 3:16:55
50K: 4:39:49
50 Mile: 9:54:21

I have been running for just under 6 years. I started running July, 2002, about two weeks after I quit smoking. I decided I needed something to keep me quit. Boy did it ever! I ran my first marathon in February of 2003 and am now training for my 16th marathon, Boston, on April 21st. I am a member of the Marathon Maniacs (#301). My best achievement to date was in 2006 after completing 3 marathons in 3 days doing the Tahoe Triple marathon with Mr. Heely (see above). I've also completed two 50Ks, one of which I won, the Turkey Swamp 50K in 2006 in 4:39.

My marathon PR at the moment is 3:37:52. My 1/2 marathon PR is 1:41:15 and my 5K PR is 21:58.

I look forward to running with you and the 4:15 pace group!

I've been running ever since I can remember. I was an accomplished high school track athlete in the 800 meter and mile relay. Since then, I have run several distances including a 3:13 at the Steamtown Marathon on Scranton, PA. This April will be my first Boston marathon. My half marathon PR is 1:30 and a 5k PR of 18:56. I also captained a Reach the Beach 9 man relay team in New Hampshire. I currently reside in North Wales, PA with my wife Mary Rose and my pug Gimli. We are expecting our first child in early August. My wife grew up in Long Branch and I'm happy to run in familiar territory. My running friends dubbed me "iMav" for my obsession with gadgets. Feel free to call me whatever you wish, though except late for dinner. I look forward to completing the marathon with you!

# of Marathons Completed:  17 marathons (2 of them as pacers, Kentucky Derby-5 hour pacer, Tampa-4:45 pacer)

Marathon Finish Most Proud of? Chicago Marathon October 2007 is the marathon I am most proud of. Even though it was my worst time 5:02. I am happy I was able to survive the marathon
without any injuries. Coming from South Florida, I trained in very hot weather condition. But, that of Chicago was something I never experienced in my running life before. Luckily enough, I had enough experience running. I knew how important hydration was during the race. I know my body best, and even though my Chicago goal was to qualify for Boston. By mile 3 I knew that I will not be able to accomplish that goal, I ran the first half, at a decent pace, but I started slowing down the 2nd half. I was able to get a bottle of water from the spectators, and even though the water stations were out of cups, I was able to just to use my bottle. They announced the cancellation of the race, and even though they told everybody to walk, I wanted just to get the marathon over with, so I slowly ran the last 3 miles and managed to finish in 5:02. I was extremely disappointed with my time, but I do feel stronger because I was able to endure and finish such a hard hot race.

Just ensure that after this experience, I will never quit on my group of runners even on the hardest racing condition.

Hobbie: I enjoy doing a number of marathons just for fun, it's a great way to know a city.Besides running, I also do weight lifting, and long road bike rides as cross training.

My goal: One of my goals will be to qualify Boston this year! I also would like to help other runners achieve their personal running goals.

Running is not only something I do for fun, but something I am very passionate about. I want to inspire others to run and live a healthy life.

My name is Brian Buffaloe. I'm 56 years old and have been running marathons for about 20 years. I started my marathon odyssey at the New Jersey Marathon in Jersey City in 1985. Since then I have successfully completed 75 marathons and 1 ultra (60k-37 miles). My best marathon time is 3:14 (of course that was many years ago-smile). I have run marathons in such exotic places as Athens Greece, Anchorage Alaska, Walt Disney World, just to name a few. Although injuries have slowed my times and hampered my training, I still try to run in at least 3 marathons a year. This year I will be running the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach in March, the NJ Marathon in April, and NYC Marathon in Nov.

Whenever I'm asked what is my favorite marathon, I have to say that I don't really have one particular favorite. The NJ Marathon has a special place in my heart. NJ is my home state and the marathon course runs near the homes of my mother and brother and sisters. I have been running The NJ Marathon since its start in 1996. I was one of the original pacers. This year if I can overcome my knee injury, I will be pacing at 4:45. I've also have had the honor and privilege of singing the National Anthem at the start of every NJ Marathon. So if you don't see me at the starting line, look for the guy with the microphone in his hand. See you at the shore.

I am a native New Yorker with a passion for marathoning.  I have paced over two dozen marathons (and 1/2 marathons) including hometown NY, Shamrock, NJ, Hartford, Flying Pig, Disney, San Diego, Columbus, Grandmas & Marine Corps.  I was part of the 2006 Clif Bar Pace team and a pacer for the New Balance Chicago Team.  I have also been part of both Active’s Team Aquaphor and Team Amino Vital.  This year I hope to add both cycling and swimming to my athletic resume but I believe the marathon will remain my true first love.  I look forward to sharing the miles with you!

This will be my 8th time running the New Jersey Marathon. I have completed 85 marathons, 29 ultras and 69 half-marathons. If I can do it, then anybody can. As they say, "The distance doesn't matter; it is only the first step that is most difficult." In 2007 I was the 6-hour pacer and my clock time was 5:59:52. I will be more accurate in 2008.

I started running in May 2002 because I was sick of being an obese, bad habit-collecting couch potato. Since then I've raced everything on the road from 5K to ultramarathons and every distance in triathlon from sprint to Ironman. It is my honor to pace my third NJ Marathon 6:30 group, which will be my 52nd marathon. I am a member of PA's AARC and NERRC, NYC's NYRRC, the Marathon Maniacs, and the 50 States/50 States & DC Marathon Clubs. I sometimes race for time, but more often than not I race for the experience. The back of the pack is often a real party, full of encouragement, laughs, and comraderie. I'm a native New Jerseyan who spent her first 21 summers in Ocean County along the fabulous Atlantic. I'm really looking forward to pacing my team in my home state to a smile-wearing finish! Any questions, don't hesitate to email me.
